I'm a fan of from scratch cupcakes, but mixes work fine as well. The secret is to layer the flavors. This is a caramel pumpkin cupcake. The first time I made it using Martha Stewart's pumpkin cupcake recipe and the second time just I added some pumpkin puree to a spice cake mix. The base isn't nearly as important as what you put on top! Swirl a little Smuckers caramel ice cream topping
