Robot Decorations

Last week was our local Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet. We have thirty scouts in our pack and fed about 180 people. As much as I would have loved to go all out, with that many people, the budget just doesn't stretch very far. I was responsible for the decorations. Given no theme to work with, I came up with a robot theme at the last minute. I was inspired by these printables at Hostess with the Mostess.

Having a theme made it so much easier to make things fun. We are talking 8-11 year old boys here! I used the printable candy wrappers for Hershey Nuggets, Reeses and Rolos. Along with some unadorned candy, those were spread down the middle of the long banquet tables. We also used the bag toppers on bags holding all the boys' awards.

My favorite thing about this theme were the robots I was able to make. I got some boxes and had planned to make them 3D when my genius husband recognized the pre-folded boxes looked like robot torsos! Spray painted black and blue and then adorned, these were hung on the wall behind the buffet tables. They were a hit. One little girl made it her goal to find the power buttons on each of them and press it, to make sure they were "powered off." (I'm glad that I added one to each bot!)

Armed with googly eyes, little foil ashtrays (they're what look like the mini pie tins), paper, punches, glitter glue, a Silver Sharpie, some basic office supplies, tin foil and the ever trusty hot glue gun, I had a pretty inexpensive set of decorations. I particularly loved using my scallop punch as gears. I think these robots would make fun decorations in a little boy's room or at a birthday party.

Unfortunately there were no pictures at the event. I was too busy being crowd control!
