For some reason I fell in love with Martha's decoupage eggs. I liked everything about them, but knew there was no way I was blowing out emu eggs. First, I don't have emu eggs. Second, there is no way I will be careful enough to keep a blown out emu egg from shattering before next year. I looked online to see if I could find wooden ones, but the largest I came across where goose eggs. I ended picking up goose eggs at Michael's for less and didn't have to pay for shipping!
Once I had the eggs home with me, I realized that I was crazy. In no way were those decoupaged eggs my style, and really, where was I going to find botanicals like that?
And then last night I had a great idea. So great I started laughing out loud and my husband asked what was so funny.
"Vinyl! I can use vinyl."
(crazy look from husband)
"On my eggs, I can put vinyl on my eggs!"
He had no idea what I was talking about, but it didn't matter. I knew.
I pulled out my trusty Silhouette SD (love that thing!) and started cutting. When my boys hear it start cutting they come running. It has a very distinct sound and they love watching it work, so I try to only use it during the day when they are awake. Otherwise they get out of bed to join me.
The bunny silhouette is cut out of the white fuzzy vinyl, and the cherry blossoms are pink cardstock on brown swirls. The green fish scales are my own doing and I like how the bright green looks on the mellower yellow. Most of all they look right at home on my shelf!
You are genius! I LOVE them.
